Dr. Calabrese
I grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois and attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois. After high school I attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and then went on to Loyola University Dental School. While attending dental school I operated my own dental laboratory and in my senior year assisted an oral surgeon in Bloomingdale where I learned a tremendous amount about surgical procedures. Upon graduation I was accepted into a one-year position as a resident in a downtown Chicago office in which I expanded my dental skills working alongside a group of my former teachers from Loyola. Throughout the year I received advanced training in endodontics, periodontics, and prosthetic dentistry. Working with these specialists was a wonderful learning experience, and because of this training I have always been able to offer my patients a wide variety of treatment options in my office.
In 1992 I began private practice in a busy Chicago practice. At this dental office I met Dr. McNerney and after working together for two years we decided to open a practice together in Lake Zurich. What a great decision! We opened our doors in 1995 and after only a few short years, constructed a building to accommodate the rapid growth of Sandy Point Dental. I have found the Lake Zurich area to be the perfect location for growing a dental practice. Our patients are awesome and present with such a variety of needs. A day at Sandy Point Dental has included providing cosmetic dentistry on a professional public speaker in the morning and helping a child understand the need for her first filling in the afternoon. Building each relationship on a foundation of trust helps our dental office stand out above the industry standards.
What I like about sandy Point Dental: I’m able to provide authentic and professional dentistry. My patients trust me because we have a genuine approach to dental care at Sandy Point Dental. We listen to our patient’s questions and concerns and then find out how our dental services can meet or exceed their needs and wants. Dr. McNerneyI grew up in a family of six in Oak Park, Illinois and attended Oak Park High School. After high school I attended Triton College, UIC and then went on to Northwestern University Dental School. I graduated in the top ten of my dental school class, and afterwards completed a General Practice Residency at the Great Lakes Naval Base and the North Chicago VA in 1989. The residency focused on advanced training in oral surgery, periodontal treatments, and prosthetics.
In 1990 I began my private practice career at an office in Chicago. In 1992 Dr. Sam Calabrese was brought into the same practice and we immediately became fast-friends. We decided to go into practice together, and after an extensive search decided on Lake Zurich as an optimal location for a new practice. We opened Sandy Point Dental, P.C. in 1995, and by 2004 we had grown so quickly that we built our own building and moved into our present location. It has been a fun and successful 15 years in partnership with Dr. Calabrese at Sandy Point Dental.
What I like about sandy Point Dental: Our practice is in a beautiful, modern building with the most advanced technology to date. We love performing cosmetic dentistry, implants, and we are great with children too! However, I’d have to say our best attributes are that we are a relationship-driven practice, our team is exceptional with patient care, and we listen to patients and we do what we say we’ll do. .
Martiann – R.D.H.
I have been a dental hygienist for Sandy Point Dental since March of 2006. In high school I became a dental assistant which made me want to further my education in dentistry and become a dental hygienist. I have been a registered dental hygienist since 2004. As a hygienist I am conscientious, compassionate and have a strong work ethic. I take part in many continuing education courses to better my skills and my patients.
I enjoy being a wife to my husband and a mother to my daughter. In my free time I enjoy scrapbooking and spending time with my family and friends.
At Sandy Point Dental we take great pride in providing the best products to enhance our patient’s oral hygiene. Sonicare toothbrush, Reach woven floss, and Butler go betweens are only some of my favorite products I recommended to my patients.

Stephanie – R.D.H.
I started my career in the dental field as a dental assistant at the age of sixteen and have only become more committed to the profession. I attended Southern Illinois University of Carbondale to obtain my bachelors in Dental Hygiene. I joined Sandy Point Dental in 2008 and am excited to be part of the family. The joy of seeing a patient leave with a smile they are not embarrassed about is just one of the many pleasure in working at Sandy Point Dental. My profession has allowed me to travel to Mexico to help the under served, as well as here in the states with previous work with Medicaid. In my free time I enjoy taking bike rides in one of the many forest preserves or going to a local comedy show.
The experience at Sandy Point Dental right away, you walk through the door and there are smiling faces welcoming you in. next another friendly team member greets you to take you back and make sure everything will go well. Our entire team is always available to lend a helping hand and to answer any questions or concerns that might be had. We offer great rewards to our patients and take pride in recommending our favorite products, like the Reach Access Flosser that always adds encouragement to my own daily flossing. Barbara – R.D.H.
I have been a member of Sandy Point Dentals team since May of 2006, although my family and I have been patients since 1999. I am married and have three beautiful daughters. I enjoy watching my kids play sports and gardening when time permits.
As a Dental Hygienist, I am motivated to help my patients achieve a healthy smile in a fun environment. I encourage my patients to use Crest Pro Health products as well as floss daily.
I look forward to a long and happy career with my patients and team members at Sandy Point Dental. .

Linda – Clinical Assistant
I have been in the dental field since 1998. Throughout the years I have enjoyed working and developing relationships with patients. As dental assistants we have the opportunities to help educate and ease patient concerns regarding their treatment. I have been a part of Sandy Point Dental since 2008 and am excited about being able to help patients achieve a healthy smile. I have personally seen how committed the entire staff at Sandy Point Dental is in delivering quality and integral work. I truly enjoy seeing patients walk out of the office appreciating their hygienist and doctor for being very detailed regarding their visit. Each team member takes the necessary time to make sure their patient walks out with a smile that can change lives. Outside of work I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my family and friends.

Melissa – Clinical Assistant
I have worked in the dental field since 2000, and joined the team at Sandy Point Dental in 2007. While working in the dental field I have worked at the front desk and as a dental assistant, and working at Sandy Point Dental has allowed me to use all the skills I have obtained throughout the years. I enjoy working with patients and helping to educate them on maintaining good oral health. Our office carries a wide variety of products to choose from but my favorite is the Sonicare Toothbrush. When not at work I spend most of my time with my friends and family. I also enjoy relaxing and spending time with my husband and son.
Anne – Office Coordinator
I have been in the service industry for over 20 years, eight years of them in dental practices. Outside of work I enjoy working out, bike trips and spending time with my boyfriend, family and friends. Finding time for a weekend trip up North is a bonus!
Joining the team at Sandy Point Dental has been a positive experience. We have a great team that is dedicated to training and educating our patients who are our greatest asset. Liz – Office Coordinator
I have always believed in “service with a smile” and there is no better place to offer up my smile than Sandy Point Dental. I was welcomed into this office with open arms and I am happy to exchange the same gesture to everyone that comes through our door. I have always been dedicated to teaching and learning. After earning my Bachelors Degree in English from Northern Illinois University, I decided to test myself in the dental world. This field allows me to experience new things everyday and it lets me share those experiences with my teammates and patients. My life outside the exciting world of dentistry consists of reading, writing, playing tennis and spending time with my friends and family.
The experiences I have shared in this office have been truly educational. They range from spending time with my teammates to receiving the scaling and root planning treatments from some of the most skilled hygienists I have ever encountered. One product our office carries that happens to be a personal favorite of mine is the Woven Floss. This product gives my mouth a clean and refreshing feeling that I haven’t found from any other floss. It even has fluoride in it! My position here at Sandy Point Dental allows me to do what I love most….SMILE!!
